Prescott Valley History
Glassford Hill overlooks Prescott Valley where many civilizations have lived in the area before the current residents. Studies have shown that in this area, man has occupied the land since 800 A. D. Native Americans in the 1400 and 1500’s were replaced by explorers and miners who found gold near the Bradshaw Mountains in 1864 which brought much attention to the region. Also in 1864, the government created Fort Whipple, the Army colonial that found Chino Valley only five miles from Glassford Hill. The one of a kind topography of the hill was utilized by cavalry as a heliograph site by using signal mirrors to communicate to other units during battle with the Apache tribes. The Fain family entered a land development contract in 1963 when the town was officially founded. In 1978, Prescott Valley was incorporated with more than 1,500 residents.
