Prescott AZ General Information
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains of Central Arizona is the gorgeous city of Prescott where the county seat is located within Yavapai County. With 250,000 residents and almost 120,000 of them living in the Prescott Metropolitan Area, it is one of Arizona’s largest cities; third behind Tucson and Phoenix. The Prescott Metropolitan Area includes Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, which all provide great diversity and a wonderful community atmosphere.
Prescott History
With its beginning in 1863, Prescott Arizona was named after a civil war era popular author named William H Prescott. In the beginning it was a simple mining town when gold was found near Lynx Creek. At this time, Arizona also became a part of the United States. Prescott, the Territorial capital still boasts Whiskey Row in which numerous historic buildings are located today. The Palace is also in this area as one of the oldest restaurant and bars in Arizona. The State Capital moved to Phoenix when Arizona became an official state of the union.
The Prescott Metropolitan Area is notorious for the comfort and relaxation of its citizens.
There are a variety of numerous outdoor getaways such as the mile high trail system.
With 28 miles of trails, this system provides Rails-to-Trails projects alongside the Santa
Fe Railroad, the Prescott Circle Trail Systems and the Greenways Trails System. These trails are all variously composed with some more urban while others encompass the whole town.

Prescott Museums

One of three museums in Prescott is the Phippen Museum which is the only art
Museum in the area. Exhibits change each quarter with features from educational

Sharlot Hall Museum consists of nine buildings that feature the history of central
Arizona. Four unique gardens provide a sequence spanning the years.

Much like an Indian Pueblo home, the Smoki Museum was built by the Civil works’
Administration and the Smoki people, who are a division of citizens formed in 1921
and committed to American Indian ceremonies and dances.
